background Plasma substitute is some agent that can expand blood volume and provide osmotic press but does not has the other important function of the blood. Now plasma substitute is made of gelatin, sugar and starch. Because raw and processed materials , manufacture method and physical chemistry characters are different, gelatin has tow kinds of medicaments:â‘  amber acyl-cross linking gelatin;â‘¡ carbamide cross linking gelatin. Poly-gelatin peptide (polygeline) belongs to amber cross linking gelatin and is used commonly in clinic. 6% HES 200/0.5 belongs to starch preparation and is chosen to use recently. It is less reported about the effect of polygeline and 6% HES 200/0.5 on hemorheology in human body , especially in operating patients.Objective The aim of this study was to observe the changes and the significance about the correlative parameters of hemorheology before and after using polygeline and 6% HES 200/0.5 in operating patients who suffered from mammary cancer. And analyze the changeand present the benefits of using these blood substitutes in clinic.Methods Fifty ASA I -II patients who underwent breast cancer operation were observed. 3.5-4 ml venous blood was collected from the upper limb before setting the venous transfusion and put the blood into anti-coagulated tubes immediately. And then , these patients were infused polygeline and 6% HES 200/0.5 1000mlrespectively at speed 400-500ml/h. 0.5% propofol were dropped at the same time. Another 3.5-4ml blood was gathered after transfusion. These blood samples were tested and recorded the hemorheological parameters.Results The parameters of hemorheology were debased(p<0.05 ) after using Polygeline or 6 % HES 200/0.5, but there was not difference between these two groups. (p>0.05).Conclusion It can improve blood plasma volume and colloid osmotic pressure, decrease numerical value of hemorheological items after using Polygeline or 6% HES 200/0.5.
