The renal injury of Chinese herbs containing Aristolochic Acid (AA) has caused the attention of medical professionals from all over the word , and this negative effect baffle the application of herbs. In this paper ,three Chinese herbs containing AA have been studied . Each herb having obstrated by water was divided into low dosage, moderate dosage and high dosage was given to wistar rats once a day for three months. The parameters of renal function and histology were examined. The results showed that urinary protein excretion and urinay NAG increased in the high dosage group, but there were no statistical differences in renal function. The renal pathologic examination showed slight tubular-interstitial injury in moderate dosage groups, mild to moderate injury in high groups in the three herbs. But there were no statistical differences in parameters of renal function and no significant tubular-interstitial injury in low dosage in these three herbs. Our results showed that high dosage of Chinese herbs contains AA may induce renal tubular-interstitial injury , but. Chinese herbs containing AA have not the renal injury within the dosage of pharmacopoeia. The study provided elementary data for clinical administrate and established a solid foundation of relative future research .
