In this paper, some kinds of porous calcium phosphate bioglass ceramics (BGC) were sintered at different temperature by calcium phosphate bioglass powder with different compositions. The BGCs were selected as a kind of tissue engineering materials by results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), degradations and biological compatibility experiments. β-Ca(PO3)2 phases are detected by X-ray diffraction in all kinds of porous BGCs. Results of the degradations demonstrate the degradation rates of porous BGCs are almost 8% as the Ca/P ratio less than 0.50,and the degradation rates are nearly 2% as the Ca/P ratio of porous BGCs more than 0.50. The hemolytic experiments show there are excellent properties as the Ca/P ratio of porous BGCs is from 0.51 to 0.43. The cytocompatibility experiments indicate that the BGC has bad cytocompatibility when the sintering temperature of BGCs is less than 600℃.The Ca/P ratio of the selected porous BGC is 0.47, and the sintering temperature is 680℃. The degradation and biocompatibility properties were verified through degradations and cell compatibility experiments. The 680℃ BGC had been dipped in 37℃ .physiological saline solution for 66h, and pH and the ion concentration of solution were characterized. The result shows there are two phases in dipping process. The degradation rate about ion concentration of 0-6h is about 10 times more than of 6-66h.The 680℃ BGC had been dipped in 37℃, physiological saline solution for 28d, and the weight loss rate and the XRD and SEM figure of dipping BGC were obtained. The weight loss rate is 9.2%, and XRD figure shows that the solubility of MgP2O7and AIPO4 is bigger than β-Ca(PO3) 2.The biocompatibility experiments disclose the porous calcium metaphosphate BGC have good biological compatibility. In all, it is expectative that this kind of porous calcium metaphosphate BGC will be an excellent tissue engineering material.
