To evaluate the clinical effect of tongue carcinoma local excision, and provide clinical treatment the rational scheme and interrelated scientific evidence, we reviewed study of 56 case of tongue carcinoma who had been local excised in West China College of Stomatology, Sichuan University between 1990 to 2000.The rate of recurrence rise with the rising of T stage and N stage(P<0.005), the rate of T1 is 0%, T2 is 17.24%, T3 is 66.67%; the rate of N0 is 0.698%, N1 is 45.45%, N2 is 50%. Recurrence rate rises with the histopathologic stage(P<0.005), the rate of stage â…  is 8.889%, stage â…¡ is 40% and stage â…¢ is 100%. Recurrence rate is related with the pathology location(P<0.005). Recurrence rate of the cancer in the foreside of tongue is 0%, in the middle part of the tongue is 15.15%, in the base of tongue is50%. But recurrence rate is not correlated with neck dissection and chemic therapy(P>0.05).This study suggests that the therapeutic scheme of carcinoma of tongue should synthetically calculate the TNM stage, pathology location and histopathologic stage. For the cases of T1 and T2 that occur in the front of the 2/3 of tongue, histopathologic stage is high and intumescent lymph node is not touched, we can actualize tongue carcinama local excision and carry through accessing for long time. For the cases of T3 or later in the front of tongue and T2 or later in the base of tongue, we should consider neck dissection in the same time. If we can touch the intumescent lymph node, we should better carry out combined operation.
