Objective: 1.To investigate the epidemiological features of thrombocytopenia in major elective orthopedic surgery. 2.To investigate the influences of thrombocytopenia to elective orthopedic surgery and the treatment of it.Method: 1035 cases were chosen which had been involved in either replacement of joints or anterior thoracolumbar spinal surgery from 1999 Jan.to 2003 Nov in Huaxi Hospital. The data such as gender, age, ethnic background, geographical distribution, intake of NSAID , major diagnosis and platelet count were obtained for statistics. The features of platelet count and prevalence rate of thrombocytopenia were analyzed,in contrast to national standard and those of control group. Furthermore, the epidemiological features were analyzed with the aid of SPSS10.0.At last, the influences of thrombocytopenia to perioperative periods of the replacement of joints have been observed according to different levels of platelet counts ,to find a safe threshold of platelet count.Result: 1.The prevalence rate was 21.3%, significantly higher than.national standard and that of the control group.2.Significant differences were observed both in platelet count and prevalence rate in patients with different age, ethnic background, geographical distribution, intake of NSAID, and major diagnosis, yet no significant differences were observed in different gender. 3. In moderate thrombocytopenia (50*109/L
