| For the past 20 years, an increasing attention has been paid to the assessment of CLP treatment results, among which, the facial appearance rating is of special importance. However, due to the complexity of attractiveness assessment, no uniform schemes and standards for CLP facial appearance rating have been unanimously accepted so far. Nowadays, foreign researchers mainly use different types of subjective panel assessment for this purpose, and some efforts have also been made to develop objective photogrametric assessment methods. In china, no relevant studies have been reported.Subjects for this study were 47 Netherlandish children, 9 years old, all with repaired CUCLP. Their cleft side profile photographes were taken under a standardized photography setup, and were prepared through a previously developed "masking" method. Three panels, made up of Chinese postgraduates, Chinese undergraduates and Netherlandish postgraduates respectively, rated the sample ,based on a 5-point scoring scheme. In the photogrametric assessment, 9 marks and 8 measurement items were established. The author marked on the digital photographes, with "wincephal 7.0", and measurements were automatically calculated according to the preprogrammed formulas. The results show:1. Panel assessment of "masked" UCLP profile photographes based on a scoring scheme proved to be a reliable method, with high reproducibility and intragroup agreement for all three panels.2. The professionals showed higher reproducibility than lay assessors , while the agreement between them was high. The Chinese and the Western possibly have different standards for rating attractiveness of the profile in UCLP.3. Photogrametric assessment of UCLP profile photographes proved to be a reliable method, with high reproducibility for all measurements.Three angles (prn-sn-nct, prn-ns-nbt, nct-sn-ls) and height of upper lip seemed to have association with attractiveness of the profile in UCLP. To confirm this, further studies are needed. |
