This paper was aimed to study the photodynamic effects of tetrapyrrole compounds on insects and rheumatoid arthritis models. It was found that tetrapyrrole compounds were favorable photosensitizers. They had strong phototoxicity toward the flies and were friendly to environment. Cell survival was found to depend greatly on the doses of photosensitizer. Their photodynamic effects could inhibit the development of adjuvant arthritis in rats. Light and photosensitizer play crucial roles in photodynamic effect.
