Objective: The purpose of this experiment is to evaluate the safety, efficacy and feasibility of a new pattern ductus arteriosus closur device in a canine model. Material and Method: 1. The creation of PDA canine model. A vascular graft(cervical vein) was surgically inserted between the descending thoracic aorta and left pulmonary artery, creating the patent ductus arteriosus canine model. 2. Experimental study of the new pattern PDA closure device: Placement of the device was attempted in ten canine models . Three dogs at one month, four dogs at three months, and three dogs at six months were killed and autopsy ,histologic study and scan microscope examination were done. Result: Eighteen dogs were used to creat the PDA model, and the model was established in ten dogs. Closure devices were successfully implanted into all the models. No resident shunt was observed after device implantation. After one month, the devices were covered by fibers. After three, six months, Histologic and electron microscopic studies revealed endothelial coverage of the divces. Conclusion: The self-made PDA closure device has good histocompatibility . The new pattern closure device which has a good thermal shape memory is safe, efficient, convenient and of fine quality. It can be used to close the PDA in patient.
