Objective To study the effects of IGF-I, bFGF and sodium hyaluronate on the tendency of growth and de-differentiation of the three-cultured chondrocytes . Method Observe the cytobiologic trans -formation of chondrocyte , we had constructed chongdrocytes-calcium alginate co-culture system, and applied IGF-I, bFGF, sodium hyaluronate in the culture process. Result Both bFGF and IGF-I can stimulate cell proliferation and matrix metabolism , and IGF-I major in matrix metabolism while bFGF major in cell proliferation. The coordinating action of bFGF and IGF-I is significant on cell proliferation rather than matrix metabolism. Conclusion Optimal combination of growth factors can promote the proliferation and matrix metabolism of chondrocytes significantly , this might be an ideal way for cartilage tissue engineering.
