The extract from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba , used in the treatment of cerebral insufficiency, was developed in the 1960s and designated EGb 761. The main active ingredients of medicinal Ginkgo leaf extracts (EGb) include 22–27% flavonoid glycosides, 5–7% terpene lactones, and less than 5 mg/g Ginkgolic acids. The flavonoid glycosides were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography as quercetin and kaempferol including isorhamnetic, and calculated as acyl flavonol glycosides with molar masses of 756.7 (quercetin glycosides) and 740.7. The terpene lactones include 2.8–3.4% Ginkgolides A, B and C and 2.6–3.2% bilobalide. Ginkgo biloba standardied leaf extract, supplied as a dry powder, has received much attention in recent decades . Many reseachers have suggested that the leaf extracts possess medicinal properties, and the active ingredients of the leaves are widely reported. Ginkgo leaves have attracted much attention as agents for improving circulation, particularly cerebral circulation, which may lead to improved mental function . Many researches have been conducted on the role of the extract in the treatment of diseases involving free radicals and oxidative damage. Antioxidants are increasingly being recognized as important health promoters in conditions such as cardiovascular problems, many forms of cancer and even aging. The antioxidants are able to reduce the effect of free radicals formed in the body due to ischemia and reperfusion of organ .Therefore a study on the antioxidant capacity (AOC) of Ginkgo biloba extracts is considered important in myocardial ischemia . In this investigation, the AOC of EGb in was determined. Besides ,It was investigated function in myocardial ischemia and their influence on platelet aggregation and hemorheology . Methods: The experimental myocardial ischemia model was established in two way: one is by hyperdemic isoproternol in mice , the other is ligating anterior descending coronary artery in the heart of mice .Platelet aggregation was quantified by turbidimetric method. NO content of plasma was assayed by spectrophotometry .The simulated formulation of thrombus both in vivo and in vitro was used to measure their effects on thrombus .Acute blood stasis model was used to estimate their effects in hemoheology . Result : It was found that the mixture of EGb and dipyridamole (EGBD)can significantly lower the level of MDA,AST,CK a nd LDH and protect the activity of SOD in serum and myocardium in the experimental acute ischemic myocardial injury. The pathological examination of HE stained...
