Objective to observe the influence of early post-operative enteral feeding on gastro-intestinal motility after gut reconstruction. Methods from December 2003 to February 2005,16 patients with had gut disease who had under went gut reconstruction were randomly allocated into enteral nutrition (EN)group(n=8)and control group(n=8).the migrating motor complex(MMC) was recorded by Medtronic Polygraf ID and data was analyzed by polygram 98-small intestine manometry application soft ware. Results MMC is disappeared after gut reconstruction in all patients, the first MMC recurred less than 24h after the operation, while there was no significant difference between two groups. However, MMC in EN group was different from those in normal group which was lack of phase II at the early post operative stage, the variation of MMC trended to become normal during 72 hours of consecutive observation, compared with control group ,the duration of MMC phase III,area under the curve, transmit speed, mean swing and motility index were different in EN group. Conclusion early postoperative enteral feeding can help prebuild the normal gastro-intestinal motility. Further studies about patients' selections and nutrition preparations are needed.
