Objective To investigate the frequency of two single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of FasL promoter region -844(C/T) and -1094(A/C) and the possible association between these SNP and systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).Methods FasL gene promoter -844(C/T) and -1094(A/C) polymorphism was genotyped in 92 Chinese systemic lupus erythematosus patients and 102 healthy controls of Fujian native Han Population by Snapshot methods. The data, therefore, can be used to estimate the odds ratio for SLE.Results The frequency of FasL promoter -844CC genotype in SLE patient is significantly higher than that in health controls (63.1% vs 48%, p=0.036, OR= 1.845). There were no significantly differences in the frequencies of TC and TT genotype between SLE patients and controls; however, significantly differences in the frequencies of genotype and alleles of FasL promoter-844 were found among different races. The frequencies of FasL promoter -1094 genotype and allele were nosignificantly differences between SLE patients and controls. Conclusion FasL gene promoter -844CC genotype appears to be associated with SLE susceptibility in Fujian native Han Population. The -1094(A/C) polymorphism no associated with SLE susceptibility.
