| Objective Gastric cancer is a most frequent carcinoma of digestive tract.The incidence of gastric cancer has been declining during recentdecades but is still the second most common cause of cancer death inthe world. It is still an important disease to human health. Thedevelopment of gastric cancer is a multi-factor process, an importantstep in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer is the acquisition ofcellular immortality. The reactive of telomerase can stabilize thetelomere's length, and let cell immortalized. Telomerase has becomean important marker of carcinoma. The only way to improve the survivalrate of gastric cancer is diagnose early, treat early and discover therecurrence early after operation. But the diagnosis early of gastriccancer is depend mostly on tiny change of gastric mucous, there mustbe any false positive. We semiquantitatively measure the telomeraseactivity in gastric juice, ascites or peritoneal lavage fluids ofgastric cancer patients. Compare the difference of the patient gastricjuice's telomerase activity of gastric cancer, precancerousconditions and control group, and the difference of the patient ascitesor peritoneal lavage fluids telomerase activity of gastric cancer andcontrol group, to summary any regularity, to provide any proof to thebasic research and the clinic detection.Method All the examples are come from the patients of general surgery ofthe second affiliated hospital of JianXi Medical University, includingthe patient's gastric juice of 16 gastric cancer, 11 precancerousconditions, 12 gastric juice control group and 12 postoperative, thepatient's ascites or peritoneal lavage fluids of 14 gastric cancerand 13 it's control group. The kit of telomerase activity assay comeform Sino-American Biotechnology Co is adopted. Data are dealt withSPSS 12.0 for Windows statistic software.Results After be treated by statistic software, the mean telomeraseactivity is: the gastric juice of gastric cancer group (0.757±0.1220)>precancerous conditions group(0.475±0.084)>gastric juice controlgroup(0.274±0.079),the difference among them and every both issignificant(P=0.000);preoperative group ( 0.762 ±0.127 ) >Postoperative group(0.445±0.090),the difference between them issignificant(P=0.000); the ascites or peritoneal lavage fluids ofgastric cancer group(0.412±0.070)>ascites or peritoneal lavagefluids control group(0.105±0.057),the difference between them issignificant(P=0.000).Conclusions 1 The gastric juice telomerase activity of gastric cancer group> precancerous conditions group > gastric juice control groupillustrate the reactivity of telomerase is an early event in thepathogenesis process of gastric cancer. The analysis of telomeraseactivity can be adopted as an index for early diagnosis of gastriccancer. 2 The gastric juice telomerase activity of preoperative group>Postoperative group illustrate the telomerase of gastric juice isdeclining obviously. Postoperative telomerase activity of gastricjuice can be used as index for prognostic judgment and postoperativerecurrence. 3 The ascites or peritoneal lavage fluids telomerase activity ofgastric group>ascites or peritoneal lavage fluids control groupillustrate the analysis of telomerase activity can be used as a indexfor ascites quantitatively measure.
