By investigating the changes of mitochondrial respiratory function(MRF) and energy metabolism on neuronal damage in rats after cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) , analyzing the quantity of maleic dialdehyde (MDA) and the enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in plasma, we observed that MRF of neurocyte was inhibited ,cellular energy metabolism disturbance, OFR-triggered lipid peroxidation and The Neural Deficiet Scores decreased after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) , The results of this study demonstrate that Carnitine has the function of ameliorating the cellular energy metabolism and clearing the free radicals. With the administration of LC,The MRF were ameliorated significantly, the level of RCR,P/O and state 3 were nearly increased to normal level, the content of ATP and energy burden was ameliorated significantly. The MDA level in plasma decreased and the SOD level increased (p<0.05) after resuscitation, thus the neurocyte injury were alleviated, The Neural Deficiet Scores increased significantly. So carnitine plays an important role in the protection of the neurocyte after CPR.
