Guided by Pyricularia oryzae bioassay model, the anticancer and antifungal constituents of Stichopus variegatus Semper have been investigated by various chromatography methods including LPLC, MPLC, HPLC on silica gel,ODS RP C-18 and Zorbax SB C-18 respectively.Ten compounds were isolated and structures of seven compounds were elucidated by chemical and spectral analysis (IR, EI-MS, ESI-MS,HRESI-MS, ~1H NMR, ~13C NMR, ~1H-~1H COSY, DQF-COSY, TOCSY, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY).These compounds showed moderate cytotoxity in vitro against human tumor cell lines such as A-549,P-388.Our studies focused on bioactive constituents of Stichopus variegatus Semper have established a foundation for further research and development of the kind sea cucumber with abundant resources in South China Sea, and provided important leading compounds for the development of new anti-cancer and anti-fungus drugs.
