Objective To explore the correlation between Leptin and breast cancer and study the diagnostic value of combined detection of Leptin, CEA and CA153 in differentiation breast cancer from breast tumors.Method The levels of Leptin, CEA and CA153 in 46 breast cancer patients,30 cases of benign mammary lesions and 31 normal cases were determined through radioimmunoassay(RIA) and immunoradiometric assay(IRMA).Results (1) The level of Leptin in the serum of breast cancer patients, benign mammary lesions and normal contrals was 26.50 ± 15.07ng/ml,13.90 ± 5.08ng/ml, 11.81 ± 3.74ng/ml respectively. There was markedly statistical significance among them(P<0.01).The level of Leptin in patients with breast cancer increased by the different stage of I-IV,there was no difference in breast cancer patients with I stage and II stage.but there was markedly statistical significiance in patients with III Stage and IV stage in contrast to I stage and II stage(2) The levels of CEA, CA153 in the serum of breast cancer patients, benign mammary lesions and normal contrals were 16.26 ± 15.86ng/ml,46.91 ± 43.87U/ml;6.93 ± 5.59ng/ml, 16.49 ± 7.91U/ml;5.05 ± 2.07ng/ml, 14.32 ± 3.28U/ml respectively. The levels of CEA, CA153 in breast cancer patients were higher than those in patients with benign mammary lesions and normal contrals. There were markedly statistical significance among them(P<0.01),but there were no difference in patients with benign mammary lesions and normal contrals.A positive correlation existed between the levels of CEA and CA153 in the patients afflict with breast cancer and the stage(P<0.05). (3)The sensitivety of Leptin, CEA and CA153 for making diagnosis of breast cancer were 41.30%,30.43%,43.48%,the specificity and the accuracy of them were 96.72%, 91.80%,93.44%;72.90%, 65.42%,71.96%. The sensitivety and accuracy of the combined determination containing three tumor markers were 71.74%,85.05%,being higher than other in diagnosis of breast cancer. Conclusion (1)Leptin can be regarded as one of the important tumor markers in diagnosis of breast cancer. (2)The levels of Leptin, CEA and CA153 can reflect the stage and prognosis of thepatients with breast cancer, expecially they have initial value in selecting the treatment method.Combined detection of Leptin CEA and CA153 can significantly improve the sensitivity and the accuracy in diagnosis of breast cancer.
