Objective: To discuss the relationship between BMP-2 (bone morphogenetic protein-2) protein and possible mechanism and compare the validity of two different imaging examinations (radiograph and MRI) displaying the epiphyseal plate extension of osteosarcoma.Methods : Different show rates of radiographic images and MRI examination in 36 cases of epiphyseal plate extension of osteosarcoma that had been confirmed by patholohy were analysed retrospectively and made the statistic analysis;the expression of BMP-2 was detected with immunohistochemical SABC method in different districts.Results: The diagnostic accuracy in epiphyaeal plate extension of osteosarcoma with various imaging examination: X-ray plain film displayed 16 in 36 cases(44. 44%),MRI displayed 36 in 36(100.00%). There was an apparent statistical significance between two validity (P=0.000<0. 05).The positive reaction rate of BMP-2 in tumor body,epiphyseal plate soak district ,normal epiphyseal plate and normal tissue nearby the tumor were 88.89%(32/36), 94.44% (34/36), 10.00% (l/10)and 20.00% (2/10) . The positive reaction rate in tumor body,epiphyseal plate soak district expression was higher than in normal epiphyseal plate and normal tissue nearby the tumor apparently.Conclusion: The diagnostic accuracy of MRI in epiphyseal plate extension of osteosarcoma is higher than by radiograph apparently and MR imaging can guide the orthopaedic surgeons;the higher positive reaction rate of BMP-2 protein is correlated to the epiphyseal plate extension of osteosarcoma.
