Objective: The effect of drug-containing serum of Prepared Licorice Decoction on ventricular myocardial action potential was observed in SD rats by both serum pharmacology and a microelectrode arrays (MEA) recording technique after the drug-containing serum of Prepared Licorice Decoction was orally administrated in regular way. Method: Ventricular myocardial field action potential duration (fAPD) recorded by MEA were compared. Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into five groups (n=10): control group in which distilled water was given and serum was extracted, amiodarone group. 5%, 10% and 20% concentration group of drug-containing serum of Prepared Licorice Decoction. Results: The results showed that the ventricular myocardial fAPD were prolonged in the rats with drug-containing serum of 10%, 20% concentration (p < 0.05). Conclusions: These results suggested that significant prolongation of fAPD could be observed both in the amiodarone group and drug-containing serum of Prepared Licorice Decoction with 10% and 20% concentration, which indicated drug-containing serum of Prepared Licorice Decoction may have some effect of anti-ventricualr arrhythmia.
