Objective: To explore the earlier and later complications of nitinol stents implantation for patients with benign or malignant airway stenosis, and to provide the experience of prevention and treatment of postoperative complications of stent placement. Methods: 60 cases of patients with benign or malignant airway stenosis [malignant airway stenosis (MAS),n=47;benign airway stenosis (BAS)n=13],who underwent nitinol stents placement by fluoroscopic guidance, direct visual control and bronchofibroscope location, were performed follow-up and recorded the postoperative complications of nitinol stents implantation after operation 3 months and 6 months ,respectively. And also the therapic methods of postoperative complications of stenting were evaluated. Results: 1. For the earlier complication (less than 3 months after stents implantation ),All patients had laryngalgia and stimulus cough(100%) and vanished in one week or one month after treatment. 2 patients'stents had migration (3.3%) and had to apply balloon dilatation and draw them with biopsy forceps to proper location. 1 case of patient had to implant another stent. In one week, the incidence of hemoptysis in patients with BAS was significantly lower than MAS (46.15% vs 80.85% ,χ2 = 5.738 ,P = 0.017). In two weeks, the incidence of pulmonary infection in patients with BAS was not significantly lower than MAS (84.62 % vs 95.74 %, Fisher,s Exact Test, P = 0.202).All patients who had hemoptysis or pulmonary infection were cured by local haemostasis or anti-infection therapy in two weeks or more. The incidence of...
