| Purpose: While the criteria of Light etal are very accurate in distinguishing transudates from exudates, a comparable test for distinguishing exudates of various etiologies is still lacking. Although a variety of simple laboratory tests are in use, a number of Cases remain undiagnosed or the"diagnosis"is based on clinical evidence alone. Cytokines are proteins with relatively low molecular weight that are secreted by cells in response to a variety of different stimuli and act as key mediators of the host response to various infectious, inflammatory, and immunologic challenges. Cytokine-producing cells and cytokines have been reported in pleural effusions from patients with malignant diseases, tuberculosis, and empyema. It has been reported that Cytokine levels are different in tuberculous pleural effusion and in malignant pleural effusion after pleurodesis. Our research is to analyze the significance of the change and evaluate the diagnostic value of IL-6,IL-8 in malignant pleural effusion and tuberculous pleural effusion.Materials And Methods: IL-6 and IL-8 were measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA) in 54 patients with exudates including 22 patients with tuberculous pleural effusion and 32 patients with malignant pleural effusion, as well as their serum samples were measured. Using statistic software Spss12.0, we analyzed the data by Independent Sample T Test and analyzed the correlations between the concentrations of IL-6,IL-8 between pleural effusion... |
