Hepatic cirrhosis is a common disease severely endangering human healthy and its incidence tends to remain high for a long time to come. Many factors can cause hepatic cirrhosis but hepatitis virus is the commonest etiological factor. The pathobiologic mechanism is hepatic fibrosis, an intermediate pathological process from hepatic inflammation to chronic hepatic disease then to hepatic cirrhosis. It has been proved that hepatic fibrosis is a reversible process and it is the only stage in which hepatic cirrhosis can be prevented and the optimal stage for hepatic fibrosis to be treated. Thus early diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis is utmost important in treating concerned diseases.Researchers have been paying much attention to matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMPs) in the past few years because their balance plays a very important role in EMC degradation process. In 2003, Rosenberg pointed out it urgent to establish a reliable, highly repeatable and non-traumatic hepatic fibrosis index in Journal of Hepatology. The best index should be a serologic candidate. It indicates the significance of serologic markers in diagnosing...
