AIMGlipizide is a sulfonylurea drug used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. It appears to lower the blood glucose acutely by stimulating insulin secretion of pancreatic β cells. Gastrointestinal absorption of Glipizide in man is uniform, rapid, and essentially complete, and no first-pass metabolism. The present study was scheduled to start at April 2000 and end at April 2001, and conducted according to the designed requirements. A preliminary study for clinical pharmacokinetics of Glipizide tablet was approved by the Shaanxi Province Health Department. The aim of this study was to definite its pharmacokinetical characteristics such as absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion in healthy body and evaluate the bioequivalence of two tablet formulations containing 10mg Glipizide Ginwa Investment Co. Ltd and Farmitalia Carlo Erba Pty Ltd. (Milano, Italy), and to provide scientific evidence for reasonable guideline for clinical application.
