Objective : To observ the effect of ganshu -shenshu acupuncture on focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats' serum of NPY content and the express of NPYmRNA in rats' brain tissue and to explore its mechanism.Method: The rats were randomly divided into the sham operation group, the model group, the acupuncture group. The modified Longa method was applied to establish the models of focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion in rats.Then,electropunctured ganshu shenshu and Infarct size, neurological deficit scores, NPY content in serum of the model rats were detected after six hours,tweleve hours,twenty-four hours.And detected the express of NPYmRNA in rats' brain tissue by RT-PCR. Results: Ischemia reperfusion injury in model rats resulted in increased neurological deficit scores, larger infarct size. The pathological change were evident.Acupuncture to model rats could effectively decrease the NPY content in rats' serum.After the treatment of acupuncture,NPYmRNA express was. lower than before in rats' brain tissue . The above indices were improved in all the groups administered with different doses of acupuncture. Conclusion: Acupuncture to ganshu shenshu has protective effects on rat brain injury caused by focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion.It indicated that regulation to NPYmRNA express might be one of the molecule mechanism of acupuncture to focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury.
