Purpose:OSCC is the most type in oral-maxillofacial malignant tumors which accounted for 80% and threatens the patients's lives. It had a close relationship with multitude oncogene and suppressor gene. Human S100A4 gene is a invasion-associated gene which located on the long arm of chromosome 1 at position 1q21,and as one of the family of S100 ptotein ,Calcium Binding Protein S100A4 was encoded by S100A4 gene. E-cadherin(E-cad) gene is a suppressor gene which located on the long arm of chromosome 16 at position 16q22.1,and the encoded protein is one of the family of Cadherin. We sued immunohistochemical SP techniques to detect the expression of Calcium Binding Protein S100A4 and E-cadherin in OSCC and explore its relationship with the clinicopathological features and biological behavior of OSCC. Materials and Methods:1. 20 NOM and 52 oral squamous cell carcinomas were selected.Information of these cases was collected including age, gender, location, pathological type, metastasis and TNM stage.2. Using immuohistochemical SP staining,we examined protein S100A4 and E-cadherin protein expression in paraffin slices of 61 oral squamous cell carcinomas. As control, expression of these proteins in 20 normal oral mucosas were also detected.3. Difference of protein S100A4 and E-cadherin were analyzed in normal mucosas and oral squamous cell carcinomas,Relationships of these protein expression with clinicopathological parameter were analyzed in OSCC,and so were relationship of protein S100A4 expression with E-cadherin expression.
