| Objective To measure the iliac crest height of the isthmic spondylolysis patients and the healthy people on CR film and discuss their clinical significance.Method 30 isthmic spondylolysis patients (14 men and 16 women) aged from 18 years to 64 years (mean, 40 years) and 30 normal healthy people (15 men and 15 women) aged from 20 years to 50 years (mean 40 years) were randomly recruited. Hitachi 500mA X-ray machine was used. The film was taken by the same doctor at the same time each day. We measured 2 parameters on each people's film. One is the distance from the midpoint of the sacral plate to the point where the line perpendicular to the middle of the sacral plate meets the iliac crest. The other one is the distance from the midpoint of the sacral plate to the point where the line perpendicular to the middle of the sacral plate meets the upper plate of L5.We built up data base using SPSS 13.0. The data were described directly and analyzed with t Test.Result The iliac crest heights of patients are different from those of controls. The iliac crest of patients with L4 isthmic spondylolysis is higher than that of health people, while the health people's iliac crest is higher than that of patients with L5 isthmic spondylolysis. Conclusion The iliac crest plays a great role in etiology of isthmic spondylolysis. The people whose iliac crest is higher than normal value are prone to L4 isthmic spondylolysis, while those whose iliac crest is lower than normal value are prone to L5 isthmic spondylolysis. |
