Objective:The study was designed to analyze the effects of nonylphenol (NP) on pituitary and ovary as well as expression of hormone receptor in both ovary and the uterus, the destination was to demonstrate the female gonadal toxicities of nonylphenol and related mechanism. Methods:1. 48 rats (SD) were randomly divided into 4 groups base on body weight and were ig. by the 4 dose levels (0,50,100 and 200 NP mg/Kg body weight) for 5 weeks daily. The rats were sacrificed on the day of preestrus stage which was definite by daily vaginal smears. Body weights , estrus stage and organ weights and organ coefficients of ovaries and uterus were observed. Uterine tissue and ovary were processed for histologic examination. Serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) were detected with the radio immunoassays.2. Progesterone receptor (PR) in the ovary and estrogen receptor (ER) in the uterus and ovary were examined with the immunohistochemical assay.Results:1. Organ weight and organ coefficients of both ovaries and uterus in rats treated with NP were not significantly different from the control group (P>0.05).2. The period of estrus stage in rats treated with NP was longer than that of the control group, the period of metestrus in rats treated with 200 NP mg/Kg was...
