Objective : Disturbance of gastrointestinal motility following trauma may cause bacterial overgrowth in gastrointestinal tract and increase the incidence of bacterial translocation. Liu Jianwei's study demonstrated the incidence of bacterial translocation from gut in spinal cord injury rats. This study is to investigate the therapy effects of gentamicin on bacterial translocation from gut in spinal cord injury rats. Methods: Model of paraplegia was built up by injuring spinal cord of rat. The experimental groups were rats treated with gentamicin(by way of stomach and by way of intramascular injection). The control groups were rats teated with physiological saline solution (by way of stomach and by way of intramascular injection). The samples were collected after treatment for three days. Under aseptic manipulation, samples of blood, liver, spleen, mesenteric lymph node and intestinal contents were collected for bacterial culture and endotoxin detection. The samples of liver, spleen, mesenteric lymph node, jejunum and ileum were collected for pathology study.
