BackgroundExtreme lateral lumbar disc herniation is a special type of lateral lumbar disc herniation. The name of the disease is still not definite all the while. Respectively, it is also called the super-lateral, far lateral, inforaminal and extra-foraminal lumbar disc herniation. Then they were named 'extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation' universally by most scholars. The relative report about which was hardly to found in articles for the disadvantages of both technique and diagnosis. With the widespread appliance of CT and MRI, the reports of the disease have increased year by year. Along the incidence of the herniated disc, extreme lateral lumbar disc herniation account for 9.9%, and often occur at the middle age and old folks. It commonly is according with the fact.
