Objectives To investigate the relationship between serum brain natriuretic peptide(BNP) and congestive heart failure(CHF). In order to probe the value of BNP in diagnosis, cardiac function measurement and therapeutic effect evaluation in patients with CHF. Methods Serum BNP levels were measured in 76 patients with CHF(including 35 males and 41 females). The patients's age are between the a 45 to 90 (mean 61.8 ± 11.6 ) years old. The patients were divided into four groups by New York Heart Association(NYHA) cardiac function classifications. The diastolic heart failure(DHF) patients(N=6) is a single group. 30 healthy volunteers(composed of 12 males and 18 females) between 45 and 72(mean 61.8 ±7.9) years old were assigned to control group. BNP levels were measured by ELISA method. LVEF, LVDd , IVST, LPWT , LVESV and LVEDV were examined by ultrasoundcardiography. %PLM were caculated by using Penn-Cube. Pulse Doppler evaluating left ventricular diastolic function(MV: E/A). Six-minute walk test performance to evaluate motion ability. In addition the BNP levels and cardiac function were measured before and after therapy. Results (1)BNP levels in CHF and control group were: 1.11 ±0.27ng/ml in class I (n=6); 3.31 ±0. 87ng/ml in class II(n=16); 6. 91 ± 1. 41ng/ml in classIII(n=20); 9.82±1.70 ng/ml in class IV(n=28); 0.81 ±0.18 ng/ml in DHF group(n=6); 0. 43 ± 0. 09 ng/ml in control group(n=30). BNP levels in patients with CHF were notablely exceed the control group; there is a significant difference of serum BNP level between CHF and normal control group (P<0.05) ; the level of BNP were positively correlated with the classification of NYHA(r=0. 943, P=0. 001). (2) BNP level were negatively correlated with left ventrticular ejection fraction (LVEF) (r=-0. 869, P=0. 001); the level of BNP were positively correlated with the LVDd and...
