Objective: to characterize the myocardial ultrasonic tissue of uremic patients usingintegrated backscatter and to assess the change of myocardial lesions as well as cardiac function in pre- and post-dialysis.Methods: Thirty ureamic patients and twenty healthy controls underwent the back-scatter analysis in the research. Patients gave informed consent .A two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography with digitized imaging was performed to characterize myocardial ultrasonic tissue by cyclic variation of myocardial integrated backscatter (CVIB), cyclic variation ratio of myocardial integrated backscatter (CVIB%) and integrated backscatter ratio (IBS%)between systole and diastole at the inter-ventricular septum (IVS). The region of interest (ROI) was placed in the middle of IVS using left ventricular parasternal long-axis views. The cardiac function of all subjects was examined by Doppler tissue imaging (DTI) and acoustic quantification (AQ) program. Mitral annular velocity were measured by DTI in early and late diastole (Ve/Va) at posterior septum, lateral wall, posterior wall and anterior wall and ejection fraction (EF) was measured by AQ in all subjects. Results: (1) There was no significant difference between age and gender amonggroups. (2) The IBS% value was higher while the CVIB% value was lower in the pre-and post-dialysis uremic group compared to these in the normal group. The IBS% value was higher and The CVIB% value was lower in pre-dialysis compared to in post-dialysis uremic patients. (3) The Ve/Va value was lower in the pre-and post-dialysis uremic group compared to these in the normal group, and the value was higher...
