Chuanxiong and Angelica are regular traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) materials, which are widely clinical used. Chuanxiong originates from Umbelliferae, tribe Ammineae, genus Ligusticum, while Angelica originates from Umbelliferae, tribe Peucedaneae, genus Angelica. This paper studies the origin plants, morphological, histological characters. The result shows the items of two different genus from Umbelliferae have similarity and dissimilarity characters in the angle of Pharmacognosy.Chemical components of Chuanxiong and Angelica are complicated. Phthalide, phenolic acids, et al are common chemical components of them included. In addition, vitamin A, sucrose, and fatty acid are found in Chuanxiong, amylose and amino acid are found in Angelica according recent studies. This task carry on chemic studies in low polarity components of Phthalide components. 4 components of phthalide in Chuanxiong and Angelica, which had higher content and better stability, are isolated and purified by methods of reduced pressure chromatography, preparative centrifugal TLC, et al., 3 of them are identified as ligustilide, senkyunolide A and Senkyunolide I.The China Pharmacopeia edition 2005 has not contain the chemical components content of Chuanxiong, the content of ferulic acid is used to define the quality of Angelica only. Considering of that the pharmacological activities of TCM and the quality evaluation are not relate one component only, this task introduces a multi-target method to evaluate the quality of Chuanxiong and Angelica using content determination by HPLC/UV method ,which is based on The China Pharmacopeia. Ferulic acid, ligustilide, senkyunolide A and Senkyunolide I are simultaneous determinated in the established HPLC/UV...
