The paeonys, officinal as the White Peony Root (Baishao) and the Red Peony Root (Chishao), are distinguished attending demonstrably in the China Pharmacopeia. The White Peony Root is originates from the processed dry root of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. while the Red Peony Root is from the dried root of P. lactiflora Pall. or P. veitchii Lynch, which are also recorded by the China Pharmacopeia. Internal and international studies of the paeonys show that the great values in therapy and health protection to human beings. For evaluating the quality of those two kinds of common Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and researching the extraction technics of paeonys, this study progressing follows as:1. For finding out the present conditions of the paeonys' wild resources in western Sichuan province and the actuality productions of famous-region drug Chuan-Baishao, this task processes the paeonys resources investigation in western Sichuan plateau and the producing area investigation in Zhongjiang County in Sichuan Province. The result makes clear that the collection and the wilding resources reproduction is balancing basically, but the yielding status of Chuan-Baishao should be ameliorated immediately because of the poor agriculture technology present.2. This task shows that the minute details of original plant forms, characters of medicinal materials and microscopic structures between Baishao and Chuan-Chishao using pharmacognosy methods.3. This research sustains the ameliorative methods of the paeoniflorin content determination in paeony in China Pharmacopeia edition 2005 through determining the content of paeoniflorin in paeony using HPLC/UV method.
