Backgrounds and objective: Neuroglobin (Ngb) , an oxygen-carrying protein present mainly in neurons of the brain, is a recently discovered member of the globins family and an O2-binding protein, which is highly expressed in neurons during brain hypoxia-ischemia, and may act as an endogenous neuroprotective factor against ischemic neuronal damage. However, previous studies paid attention to the expression of Ngb mRNA after focal cerebral ischemia induced by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. There is no report concerning the expression and change of Ngb proteins after traumatic brain injury. Here we use wooden staff device to make local moderate brain contusion in rats, and then investigate the expression of apoptotic neurons and Ngb proteins in different areas of the brain at different time point of post-trauma in order to find the potential neuroprotective value of Ngb after traumatic brain injury. Methods:The healthy male SD rats weighing 250—300g were randomly divided into normal control and injured groups. The wooden staff device was used to make local moderate brain contusion in the injured group and then blood flow would be mesured .The rats were killed at deffren time point after injury respectively. The role of Ngb in...
