Abstract/Summary:
Objective: To sum up the experiences in microsurgical technique of medulloblastomas and study the therapeutic effects of microsurgery on meduUoblastoma and its related points in children. Methods: From May 2000 to Aug 2005, 24 children with medulloblastomas confirmed pathologically underwent microsurgical operation. All patients were followed-up from 1-58 months. Results: Among them, 16 were treated with gross resection, 8 with partial resection and all patients received radiotherapy. After operation, 6 patients received chemotherapy, 8 patients died during follow-up perieod. QOL of 12 patients were improved. Conclusion: A clear understanding of the microcenatomy of the tumor and its adjacent tissure and structure is adventageous to the removal of tumor. Postoperative radiotherapy must be applied, and the long-term follow-up is a necessary measure. The prognosis of meduUoblastoma may be improved with these measures.
