Objectives: Apollon is a potent member of inhibitor of apoptosis proteins(IAP)family, which inhibits apoptosis by bind and inhibit Smac and caspase-9. Apollon is expressed in some tumors, and its high expression associates with poor prognosis. The expression and significance of Apollon in leukemia remains to be elucidated. Smac (second mitochodria-derived activator of caspase, Smac) is a proapoptosis protein releasing from mitochondrion, which induces cell apoptosis by relieving the inhibition of IAP. The Bcl-2 family of proteins is important for enhancing or suppressing apoptosis. Both Bcl-xl and Bad are members of Bcl-2 family, Bcl-xl belongs to antiapoptotic proteins, and Bad can induce apoptosis. This study intended to investigate the expression and clinical significance of Apollon, Smac, Bcl-xl and Bad in leukemia. Methods: The expression of Apollon, Smac, Bcl-xl and Bad mRNA were measured in 110 adult acute leukemia patients(including 83 de novo acute leukemia patients, 6 relapsed patients and 21 complete remission patients), 14...
