Objective To observe the effects of stellate ganglion block (SGB) on the contents of endothelin (ET) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) both in plasma and brain tissue homogenate and the ratios of CGRP/ET in plasma in rabbits during cerebral ischemia and reperfusion , and to investigate the underlying mechanism of SGB against cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rabbits. Methods The model of stellate ganglion block in rabbits was established according to the method of placing an epidural catheter close to the right stellate ganglia. The successful standard of the model of SGB occurs Horner's syndrome i.e. the model is successful and effective. Thirty healthy adult rabbits of either sex weighing 2.5~3.0kg established for the model of SGB were used for the study. These rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: sham operation group (group A, n=6),blank control group (group B , n=8), normal saline control group (group C, n=8) and stellate ganglion block group (group D, n=8). The model of cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rabbits was made by the method of negative pressure drainage form external...
