AimPulmonary fibrosis is a pulmonary interstitial disease, which is induced by many factors. It is characterized by alveolar epithelial cell absence, fibroblast abnormal proliferation, extracellular matrix accumulation. Up to now, the mechanism of pulmonary fibrosis has not been well clarified and no effective therapy has been found. It is well-accepted that pulmonary fibrosis is related to infiltration of inflammatory cells and disequilibrium on cytekine network, which is induced by oxidative stress. It is known that transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), produced by pulmonary cells and inflammatory cells, is one of the most potent fibrogenic cytokines. The TGF-β1 stimulates extracellular matrix accumulation and inhibits its degradation. The existence of more myofibroblasts is another important fibrogenic side. It is reported that myofibroblast not only secreated a large amount of type I collagen , but also secreated many kinds of cytikines, which contributed to the formation of pulmonary fibrosis.Baicalein (Bai) , main ingredient of baicalensis Genogi, has extensive pharmacological action. It has been applied as an...
