There is mounting evidence from in vitro studies to suggest beneficial effects related to the consumption of flavonoids. However, there is limited knowledge on the oral bioavailability of them.In this paper, absorption and metabolism of quercetin, rutin, quercitrin and hyperin were studied by using Caco-2 cell monolayers as an intestinal epithelial cell model. Initial concentration of them were 30μmol/L and 50μmol/L respectively. The apparent permeability (Papp) of each compound was obtained in both apical side to basolateral side and basolateral side to apical side. When their concentration were 30μmol/L, the Papp values of the four compounds from apical side to basolateral side were 5.15±0.65×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.04±0.01×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.35±0.04×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.75±0.04×10-6 cm﹒s-1 respectively. The Papp values of them for 50μmol/L were 5.30±0.71×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.05±0.01×10-6 cm﹒s-1 , 0.37±0.05×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.72±0.07×10-6 cm﹒s-1 respectively. Under identical condition, when their concentration were 30μmol/L, the Papp values of the four compounds from basolateral side to apical side were 10.54±1.35×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.06±0.01×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 0.52±0.06×10-6 cm﹒s-1, 1.01±0.11×10-6 cm﹒s-1 respectively. The Papp values of them for 50μmol/L were 10.80±1.20×10-6 cm﹒s-1,0.07±0.01×10-6 cm﹒s-1,0.56±0.04×10-6 cm﹒s-1,1.05±0.09×10-6 cm﹒s-1 respectively. These observations suggest the four compounds can be absobed through Caco-2 cell monolayers, furthermore facile absorption of quercetin across the human intestinal epithelial cell monolayers. The Papp values of the four compounds...
