Background and Objectivs: Cerebrovascular disease(CVD), the third most common cause of death in the world, is a kind of polygenetic complexity disease caused by numerous facters. The rate of incidence, mortality, disablity is higher than that of other diseases. It is very important to prevent occurrence of CVD and intervene the risk factors, since, up to now, the treatment methods of CVD are still poor. Homocysteine(Hcy) and 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR), one of the key enzymes in the Hcy metabolism, were hottly discussed in recent decades. The level of plasma homocysteine is influenced by the gene mutation of MTHFR High serum Hcy level and MTHFR 677C→T mutant were regarded as risk factors of CVD. In this study, we studyed the relationship between plasma homocysteine, C677T mutation of MTHFR and recurrent cerebral infarction to explore the laboratory datas of cerebral infarction prevention. Methods: The cases were chosen from the patients who were in Department of Neurology, 1~ (st) people's Hospital of Chenzhou City, from Jan, 2005 to Dec, 2005. All were diagnosed by clinical criterion plus confirmations of CT or MRI. The cases were divided into two groups: primary cerebral infarction(PCI) group and recurrent cerebral infarction(RCI) group. Controls were chosen from the health people of medical check-up. The differences of age, sex, serum glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure in all cases were no significant. The level of plasma homocysteine was assayed by the method of enzyme immune assay(EIA). The gene mutation of MTHFR C677T was determined by the method of polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Results: 1 , The plasma homocysteine level in group of PCI and RCI was 17.46 ±9.42μmol/L and 22.09±7.37μmol/L respectively, all higher(p<0.01) than that in...
