OBJECTIVES Delayed gastric emptying(DEG)is one of the most frequent postoperative complication after pancreatoduodenectomy .This study was undertake to determine which factors influence the development of DEG.METHED DEG was defined as naso-gastric drainage for more than 14 days or naso-gastric tube's reinsertion because of vomiting. We studied 249 consecutive patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy in our department between 1985 and 2004. The variables analyzed were age, gender, diabetes, diagnosis, preoperative drainage of bile juice, laboratory data, operative time, transfusion, gastroenteric reconstruction method, use of octreotide and complications.
