| OBJECTIVESDiabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex metabolic disorder characterized with chronic hyperglycemia, type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is resulted from both genetic and environmental risk factors such as physical inactivity, unhealthy dietary habits and obesity. T2DM accounts for 90-95% of DM. In recent years T2DM has reached global epidemic level and has become an important public health problem worldwide. Following tumor and cardiovascular diseases, T2DM has become the third chronic disease which is most seriously harmful for health in the world.T2DM is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction, and failure of various organs, and clustering of cardiovascular disease risk factors is a common phenomenon in T2DM patients. T2DM not only damages human health, but also causes the great economic burden. With economic development and changes of dietary habit and life style, the prevalence of T2DM in China is increasing, it was about five times in 1996 than that in 1980, and it would be further increased in the future in China. The present study was designed to further study the prevalence and risk factors of T2DM and to investigate the factors affecting the clustering of cardiovascular disease factors in individuals with T2DM. |
