Chronic ethanol feeding has been implicated in the gastric mucosal cell proliferation. However, the mechanism of this proliferation remains poorly understood. We developed a chronic drinking rat model to investigate the correlation between the gastric mucosal cell proliferation and the low concentration alcohol intake and the molecular events involved in the long-term effect of ethanol feeding on cell proliferation, focusing especially on its effects on the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), big mitogen-activated protein kinases-1(BMK1), c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) signaling pathway in rat stomach. Adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group, administered with tap water; ethanol group, administered with 6% ethanol in the drinking water; quercetin group, administered with quercetin (100mg/kg) by intragastric gavage twice a day; ethanol+quercetin...
