The comprehensive measures for controlling schistosomiasis were based on the population chemotherapy by praziquentel, combined with propaganda of health and killing snails in endemic areas, which have made great achievements. However, the achievement of control program is being challenged by the high ratio of reinfection after chemotherapy and drug resistant strain. In 1980s, the worldwide scientists agreed with the conventional wisdom that it is important to produce an effective schistosomiasis vaccine to prevent reinfection.Attenuated cercariae ( AC ) were found to induce much higher level of protection in various animal models than any candidate antigen. Neverthless, in practice, considering the production of AC, safety and some ethical problems, AC is not realistic to be used. However, the researchers hope to clarify its immunological mechanisms to help define novel strategies to the design of vaccine. There are many mice strains ever used to study the protective immunity induced by S.mansoni AC. such as C57BL/6, DBA, CBA mice and so on. Among all the mice strains, C57BL/6 is a high responder. Compared with S.mansoni, the levels of protection in mouse induced by S.japonicum AC were variable, and a good mice model is still absent in the studies of...
