Jaw is special either in embryonic origin or physiological function compared with the other bones of the whole body. There is no most ideal therapeutic treatment for the defect of the maxilla and mandible. With the development of the tissue engineering and in situ regeneration, we try to create osseous tissue using cells from the jaw and engraft it into the defect. On the other hand, we imagine that if we could find a kind of drug that can induce mandible an anabolic effect successfully in vivo and induce no serious side affects such as the tumor, then it would be almost a perfect settlement. The previous studies indicated that PTHrP has an anabolic effect on the bones if it is used in an appropriate way. Whether PTHrP is capable of increasing the osteal mass of mandibles effectively in a short period of time has not been confirmed for the moment. Since there're a lot of complexities in animal experiments and how to manage the drug and how to control the time and dosage properly are not yet determined, we try to culture...
