Objectives Primary liver cancer (PLC) is one of the commonest malignant tumors in China and the world, which damages the health of the mankind. The formation of PLC is a very complicated, multistep, biological process initiated by the pathogens. Hepatitis B Virus,Hepatitis C Virus, epidermal growth factor (EGF),sex hormones, cytokines, oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes etc.play very important roles in the carcinogenesis of PLC. After binding to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR),EGF can stimulate cellular proliferation and malignancy. The overexpressions of EGF and EGFR which were found in primary liver cancer showed a close relationship with liver cancer formation, progress and metastasis. Estradiol (E2) can promote liver cancer formation. Estrogen receptor (ER) plays a role in liver cancer prognosis. After investigating the expressions of EGF,EGFR,E2 and ER in liver cancer and analyzing their relationship among the stages and sizes etc, the research may elucidate the mechanisms and clinical significances. It will present experimental data and theoretic explanations for the treatment of PLC.Materials and methods 48 cases of PLC,30 cases of liver cirrhosis(LC) and 20 cases of healthy controls were selected for the study, who were all male patients. The expressions of EGF,EGFR,E2 and ER in PLCs,LCs and the controls were tested...
