Efficacy Of Holmium: YAG Direct Vision Internal Urethrotomy For Urethral Stricture And Atresia

Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of Holmium: YAG direct vision internal urethrotomy for urethral stricture and atresiaMethods: A total of 66 patients who were diagnosed with urethral stricture and atresia from Dec 1998 to Jan 2006 in QiLu Hospital were divided into three groups randomly, 16 cases underwent Holmium and 20 cases for electrocautery and 30 cases perform surgical removal of the stricture with reconstruction. The significant markers and therapeutic results were recorded and analyzed, which includes operating time,the blood loss,Qmax.. The therapeutic effects were compared in the three groups.Result:1. Because the cases of pro-urethral stricture and atresia treated with Holmium electrocautery and open operation is less,the effect of this group was weak.2. The operation time of each group (the group of Holmium, the group of electrocautery and the group of open operation) which was used to treat posterior-urethral stricture and atresia.were 53.4 ± 3.2min, 126.7±6.2 min and 75.5 ± 4.2 min separately.The blood loss were 5ml, 223.1 ± 12.4 ml and 10ml separately.The difference among the three group were significant (P<0.05) .3. The time of Foley catheters indwelled for each group (the group of Holmium, the group of electrocautery and the group of open operation) which was used to treat posterior-urethral stricture and atresia.were 14.3±2.7d, 35.7±5.7d and 17.5±3.7d separately,the times in hospital were 17.1±3.4d, 24.7±2.8d and 20.1±4.6d separately.
