In the present studies, the DNA damage of mouse lymphocytes induced by herbs that release the exterior and their compatibilities frequently used clinically were studied with single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE), providing the information on the genetic toxicology of the traditional Chinese medicine and guiding rational medication in clinic setting. In the study of the DNA damage induced by single herbs that release the exterior, 1/3 × clinical dose, clinical dose and 3 × clinical dose were used in the experiments by oral administration for 1d, 3d, and 7d, respectively. The results showed:(1) Angelica dahurica (Fisch.ex Hoffm.) Benth. et Hook.f., Notopterygium incisum Ting, Ligusticum sinense Oliv, Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat, Mentha haplocylyx Briq, Morus alba L., Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi , Bupleurum chinense DC had no influence on peripheral blood lymphocyte cell DNA in mice.(2) Xanthium sibiricum Patr and Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim) Kitag. could damage peripheral blood lymphocyte cell DNA. (1/3 × clinical dose, clinical dose and 3 × clinical dose were used once daily for 1d, 3d, 7d, respectively.)(3) When Ephedra sinica Stapf were used once daily for 1 day; Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq., Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz.) Schischk, Cryptotympana pustulata Fabricius, and Asarum heterotropoides Fr.Schmidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim) Kitag. were used once daily for 3 day and Ephedra sinica Stapf, Cinnamomum cassia Presl, Schizonepeta tenuifolia...
