Purpose: To evaluate the clinical value of DTI in cerebral tumors, and analyse DTI metrics whether or not to discriminate gliomas, metastatic tumors and meningiomas. the major white matter tracts were reconstructed. To display the relationship between tumor and nearby white matter tract, and to categorize the varied appearances of tumor altered white matter (WM) tracts on diffusion tensor directionally encoded color maps(DEC).Materials and Methods: DTI was performed in 42 patients with cerebral neoplasms, including 22 patients with gliomas, 10 patients with metastatic tumors and 10 patients with meningiomas. ADC, FA measurements were obtained from regions of interest (ROIs) placed on peritumoral edema region, tumor entity region, tumor cystic and necrotic region, contralateral normal white matter. Maps of ADC, FA, RA and VR were reconstructed. 24 patients(8 patients with high-grade gliomas, 8 patients with low-grade gliomas, 4 patients with metastatic tumors and 4 patients with meningiomas) were underwent DTT and maps of DTT and DEC were generated. 4 patterns of WM tract alteration were categorized on the basis of qualitative analysis of DEC maps and correlation analysis of ADC and FA.Results: To use SPSS12.0 statistical software package, the measured data were performed t-test, P < 0.05 is significant. The ADC value and FA value of tumor entity region, tumor cystic and necrotic region, peritumoral edema region have statistical difference with contralateral normal white matter in gliomas, metastatic tumors and meningiomas. The ADC value and FA value of tumor entity region have statistical difference with tumor cystic and necrotic region. The ADC value of tumor entity region have statistical difference with peritumoral edema region, but the FA value has not. The ADC value of peritumoral edema region have statistical difference between gliomas and metastatic tumors, but the FA value has not. The FA value of tumor entity region have statistical difference between gliomas and meningiomas, or between metastatic tumors and meningiomas, but the ADC value has not. No statistical difference of the ADC value and FA value of three regions(tumor entity...
