BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney diseae is an essential public health problem throughout the world,with interstitial fibrosis as its common feature.It has been widely proved that Transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-β1) plays an important role in renal fibrosis and glomerular nephritis .Furthermore there are evidences showing that TGF- β1 concentration in circulation is influnced by TGF-β1 gene polymorphisms.OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the association of TGF- β1 gene polymorphisms with the susceptibility and clinical features of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Chinese population.METHODS: The G-800A, T-509C, T869C and G915C polymorphisms of TGF-β1 were genotyped in 284 CKD patients and 116 matched controls using ARMS-PCR and PCR - RFLP methods.
