Objective and Background Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP) remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Pneumonia constitutes the sixth cause of death in the United States. Recently, with the improved diagnostic technology and the evolution of this organism, the distribution of pathogens has changed greatly. Antibiotic resistance continues to increase with new antimicrobial agents, the trend of emergence of multidrug-resistant may rise. Few reports have assessed the proper information of etiology and antibiotic-resistance in our country, especially in Sichuan. The purpose of this prospective study is to study the etiology and Antibiotic-resistance among the common bacteria in community-acquired pneumonia in Sichuan, analyse factors that may influence the distribution of common pathogens and guide the empirical therapy of CAP. Methods A multicentre prospective study was performed on 380 consecutive adult patients(≥15 years old) with CAP from April 2004 to March 2005 in Sichuan. The clinical character, therapy and prognosis of the patients with CAP was recorded. Sputum samples in all patients and blood samples in...
